Internet and Fashion: bridging the path to beauty
Alexander McQueen's collection called Plato's Atlantis was aired over the internet and the servers downed due to Lady Gaga Fans. Burberry broadcast their spring 2011 collection over the internet. Louis Vuitton also showed their collection over the net Prada did so too as well as Gucci. There is a trend happening in the recent times but is it too early to predict its longevity? The internet has become the modern runway and it has become increasingly popular across many cities.
Broadcasting via large screens is still limited. With the new amazing thing, world of the internet There is a new world to conquer for the brands.
The blogger effect
Fashion bloggers like bryanboy and other prominent names have really brought together that concept of making fashion most accessible online. We all know that websites like style.com have been there for a decade already but a blog is a different thing. Luxury brands have become enticed with this idea of becoming part of a community, at least, opening their tight doors to let the world have a glimpse of what it is to be part of this elusive and unique world. The blogging world in a way really changed the idea of fashion being distant into something accessible, even as a mere visual spectacle.
Accessibility
Access is something that many would want to experience when it comes to fashion. We cannot deny it, many brands are really snobs if you are not their customer and what is happening right now is that many brands are slowly accepting technological change as part of the business. If they do not accept the change, their sales plummet. Mega companies like LVMH and PPR will not like that so the labels that they hold do stuff like creating internet videos, showing behind the scenes and presenting their collections online. It is a way to really make their brands accessible to the global market since it is a global business already.
Luxury e-shops
Companies are also moving forward to making some of their items accessible online. Chanel keeps their RTW exclusive to stores but they sell cosmetics and skincare and in some retailers, you can buy their bags online. Gucci opened up their store and if your territory is one of the lucky ones, you can get access to a massive haul of amazing goods. Established luxury goods stores like Bergdorf Goodman and Barney's made it possible for all to buy high style and experience the glamour of buying nice stuff, even online. The fact is that we live in the digital world already.
A reaction from other designers
Tom Ford kept his collection intimate and it made his collection even more desirable for all to see. Givenchy also skipped the runway style for a smaller presentation. Fashion is a world of contradiction so there will be those who will do this and it also helps boost the buzz over their collections. At the end of the day, everything will be reported and delivered online so it is still good for the rest of the world.
